Science Y3/Y4 – Stewardship of God’s Creation – week 4

                                           STEWARDSHIP OF WATER 2

        Truth to Teach (Source)


              To explore ways of saving water at home and in school.


              To design a water-saving poster.


        Way to Work (Means)


              1.   Review previous lessons.


              2.   Take the children to see a water-meter and explain how it works. Show them a water bill,
                   if possible. Discuss ways in which we can all save water at home and in offices.


              3.   Count the number of taps, the toilet cisterns, wash-basins, and drains.



              4.   Gather back to share results. Find out how much water is used by each individual in the
                   UK for activities using water (See leaflet).


              5.   Use a measuring jug to find out how much water drips from a tap which has not been
                   switched off properly. Use a stop-watch to time a minute.


              6.   Give ideas for the children to design water-saving posters to put up around the school.


        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)


              The children should realise the importance of stewarding the resources we have carefully. By
              designing posters, they will see that, even as children, they are able to make a difference by
              trying to eliminate wastage.
