Production
Ginefsaga's Human Resources and Production departments came together with the entire
team to develop the company's product ideas. We wanted to create a product that represented
Guam, promoted eco-friendliness and had practical uses. We wanted to create a product that
people could use every day. By hand-making our ocean designs, we were unique in that we
were the only company in Guam to make such products on a large scale, keeping quality high
for all our customers. We were able to accept a few special orders from customers who wanted
to personalize their board.
The products were handmade by Ginefsaga's
company members, meeting every day after
school to produce the pieces. There were many
steps to get to our final product. First, we had
to find reliable wood sources; using coconut,
ironwood, and flametree wood. We had the
wood cut by skilled professionals and we
1 sanded and dried the wood Second, we mixed
epoxy resin with colored pigments and created
1. Flametree wood board an ocean design on the surface of the wood.
2. Ironwood board Third, we let the resin dry and our product was
3. Logs of coconut wood finished! This process took about two days for
ready to be cut
4. Pouring resin to make only 10 boards. Because of this, our production
the ocean design! 2 time took longer than we had anticipated.
Our goal was to produce 120 boards for $25 each. However, due to the unforeseen production
delays, we produced 94 boards instead. Despite this, we were able to sell the larger ironwood
pieces for $35 instead to account for the profit we had to forgo.
