Attracting media attention
If you are trying to attract positive media attention for your club/federation, you will
probably need to write and circulate a media release. This will inform the chosen
media of your story and hopefully they will be interested enough to contact you for
                  more information.

All media releases should be to the point and include:
                  • what
                  • where
                  • when
                  • how
                  • why.

                  Example media release

Billfish Swimming Club Swimming Expo — it’s your sport
The inaugural Billfish Swimming Club Swimming Expo will be held on the
[date to be inserted], and it is an event for everyone.

The Expo will run each day from 9.00am to 4.00pm and will be held at the
Billfish Aquatic Centre, on the corner of Smith and Devlin Streets, Swimville,
                    Pacific Islands.

The aim of the Expo is to encourage participation from all sections of the
community in the sport of swimming. The activities include various forms
of fitness training and physiological testing, along with coaching and stroke
analysis, and a series of races and games against some of the country’s and
                    the club’s best young swimmers.

There will be coaching sessions for juniors, beginners and experienced
swimmers. ‘The Expo will also expose the local community to the wide range
of services offered by the qualified and experienced staff of the Billfish Club,’
explained Mrs Belinda Side, Club President.

‘Those wishing to have specific sports testing undertaken or to have their
stroke analysed, will be given coaching tips by qualified professional coaches.
Those who want to have fun with some of our county’s best young swimmers
                    will have a great time.’

‘People who are keen to see the newest innovations in swimming equipment
and clothing, or are merely interested in chatting to the friendly, experienced
staff about the club, are encouraged to come along.

‘The Billfish Swimming Club offers services to meet the needs of a wide
variety of people, including masters, beginners, experienced swimmers,
triathletes and elite swimmers,’ said Mrs Side.
