Grade 5 Bukit Tinggi Friendship Day
                           th
On 8 November 2017, Grade 5 students of SKIS (Korean School), GESS (German European Singapore School), HSL (Dutch
School) and SSiS (Swiss School) met for the annual Bukit Tinggi Schools’ Friendship Day with the thrusts of “Learning,
Understanding, Friendship”. It has been a wonderful tradition that the Grade 5s of the four schools come together for a day of
fun learning. This year marks the seventh round of the event and there were 196 students who participated in the event.
Instead of normal classroom lessons that day, our students had the fantastic opportunity to learn about the cultural activities
of their peers in mixed groups at different stations spread over the four school campuses. The students were accompanied by
the homeroom teachers and parent volunteers. At SKIS, we displayed out pride, the Taekwondo programme. Besides that, the
students also had the opportunity to play the traditional Korean game Gonggo Nori. In addition to the activities, all the students
enjoyed an international lunch buffet at GESS. Since it was the last year for GESS (German European Singapore School) to be
part of this annual event, the vice-principal of GESS (German European Singapore School) gave a farewell speech during the
closing ceremony. All the students truly enjoy the eventful day.
                       Grade 6 International Exchange
Grade 6 enjoyed an enriching cultural exchange with a local Singaporean school, West View Primary School. SKIS travelled to
West View Primary School to experience a morning of cultural activities. With the celebration of Hari Raya still ongoing at the
time, it was a great opportunity to learn more about one of the most important events in the Singapore calendar. Our students
learnt how to make traditional decorations for Malay celebrations, called Bunga Manggar. Then we got to watch a number of
different performances of songs and dances to celebrate this special time of year. We all learned a lot from the day and came
back with great memories and new friends.
The following week, West View Primary School students visited SKIS to take part in a fantastic morning of activities. We put on a
number of exciting activities that included making traditional Korean rice cakes, learning how to play Yut Nori, and participating
in some fun team games. All while working closely with our students to find out lots of interesting facts about Korea and its
culture. Our students did an excellent job of organizing and presenting the activities, and the day was a great success!
