Tongue. On the other hand, SKIS teaches a total of 3 languages: Korean, English

and Chinese. This will teach students to be trilingual, which gives them the ability

to develop critical thinking skills and improves analytical skills.
In local schools, students need to choose their subject combinations during their

break in secondary2 (grade 8), which is too early to make a decision that their life

depends on. Eventually, even if they chose a subject that they dislike, they are
unable to change their subject combinations once confirmed. This will not only

affect their post-secondary options, but also in the future when students decide on

their university courses. In SKIS, however, students are given more time to select

subjects, and students are allowed to take their time in deciding the subjects they

would like to take up in grade11. This is undoubtedly more flexible than the local
Local schools start very early in the morning, as such students are needed to wake

up before dawn in the morning in order to reach to school on time. As a result,

many students are sleep deprived as they would stay up past midnight to finish
homework or study. Contrastingly, SKIS starts at 8.20am in the morning, allowing

students to sleep in later. This has clearly shown improvement on students’ level of

focus as they are able to listen attentively in class.

                    2. Exams are definitely stressful for students. In local schools, exams percentages are
heavily focused on one exam, namely the end of year exams. Other major exams

are more considered important for example the O/N level exams secondary4/5

students sit for, which starts in June and ends in November. If a student misses at
least one of the exam, the impact of that situation is tremendous. SKIS, however,

has many exams over the years, and there are chances of rescheduling or retaking

exams such as the SAT or APs if needed. This, I believe, would lift the burden off

                    the shoulders of many students.

                    3. Study environments in the respective schools are certainly different. Local schools

are tend to be more studious and competitive, fighting for the limited spots in their

future schools and heading to their main goal, to do well for their major exams.
