Carpet Bowls inclusion
In order to ensure a better future for the magazine and
after a discussion with the Chairman of the English Carpet
Bowls Association, we will now also start covering carpet
Bowls as well as Short Mat. Let me say from the beginning,
THERE WILL BE NO LOSS OF PAGES FOR SHORT MAT ITEMS
THERE WILL BE NO LOSS OF PAGES FOR SHORT MAT ITEMS. Indeed,
this issue is 44 pages, with 36 related to Short Mat Bowls (more than the usual
28/32) and 8 pages for Carpet Bowls. Whatever you send in for the magazine will
be included, provided the issue in question has not already been filled, and the
same applies to Carpet Bowls - use it or lose it!.
If your item misses one magazine owing to space availability it will be in the
next. The simple solution is for me to print more pages as the cost of extra pages
decreases the more I print. However I can only produce pages in fours i.e. 32, 36
40, 44 and nothing in between as the printers only work in 4’s and will not print in
between numbers. I have looked enviously at bigger magazines and I would like to
BUT THIS OF COURSE DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU
print more pages regularly BUT THIS OF COURSE DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU
SEND ME! And I’m already compiling the next issue.
SEND ME! And I’m already compiling the next issue.
As to Carpet Bowls, which is basically our very close sister sport, it is a very
skilful game indeed and is basically a drawing game with no Bash, Bash, Bash. It is
played on a carpet as wide as a Short Mat and 30 feet long. The smaller 4” bowls
used (not the very small home bowls), are bowled from off the end of the carpet. A
full article will be included later telling you all about how it is played. Our two versions
of bowls are far closer than any of the other forms of bowls and we naturally com-
plement each other.
The magazine has changed its name to “THE INDOOR BOWLER”, with the
sub-heading of “For Short Mat & Carpet Bowlers Worldwide”. Please do not pre-
judge the result, let us all see how it pans out with the Carpet Bowlers and we could
be into an even bigger, better and more inclusive magazine.
