SPRING FOURS
Kewstoke Short Mat Bowling
Club held their 20th Annual Invi-
tation Spring Fours Tournament
with teams competing from Bris-
tol, Devon, Gloucestershire, Ox-
fordshire, Somerset, Wiltshire
and six local teams from North
Somerset.
The competition was hotly
contested with three of the four
semi-finalists winning all of their
games in the round robin.
Seated winners from Baltonsborough John Godfrey,
Eileen Shipway Mike Davis (Kewstoke Chairman), The semi-final between
Valerie Beach, and Sylvia Godfreywith runners-up Baltonsborough and Melksham
Bob Weafer (Winkleigh), Barry Paterson (Kewstoke), & Shaw was going well for Bal-
Lorraine Axtell (Winkleigh) & Chris Murch (Kewstoke) tonsborough and after three
ends they led 7 - 0 Melksham
fought back with a couple of
singles but after ten ends Bal-
tonsborough came through to
win 11 shots to 5.
The other semi-final be-
tween Winkleigh (Devon) and
Clarence Park (local) saw the
latter take the first end but then
found themselves 8 - 1 down
after six ends.
Two singles for Clarence Park was replied with
a full house four for WInkleigh, with the Devon
four scoring most ends, eventually winning by 12
shots to 3.
In the final we saw some excellent bowling
with Baltonsborough taking the shots and by end
five they led 5 - 0. A stunning five to Winkleigh
levelled the scores but Baltonsborough struck
back with a three and had another three to lead 11 - 6 going into the last end and the final
score winning score was 11 - 8. Well done Baltonsborough.
The whole day went very well with many bowlers saying how much they had enjoyed it
and during the day a raffle was held which raised £180-00. The club has retained the money
this year to help replenish the funds after buying an electric winder, which is proving very use-
ful. A big thank you is due to all the club members who contributed to a very successful day.
