The ironic saying is “Not enough is being 4
done for the apathetic” but of course
they don’t give a toss anyway! What I
need is for readers to stand up and fight ap-
athy by giving me their stories, news and
views.
No-one should be embarrassed in any
way as my own work needs both spell and
grammar checking as my English “is not as
she should be” and leaves something to be
desired, but computer programs are excel-
lent in checking both and I have help a sheet
for whow to write.
Remember “footprints in the sands of
time are not made by sitting down”. Here’s
hoping that readers takes notice and we get
new people to write in! As I said in my last
chat, the World team photos have been in-
cluded in this issue, as promised. It costs
money to play in the Championships, which
are now over three days and may go to four
and some players came from as far away as
Canada, so photos now included. as they
deserve the publicity.
With this issue following on very
quickly from the last and with 32 pages, this
shows what can be done if I get enough
copy from everybody. Not just results of a photo with little else. I need a proper accompanying
story. But of course other bowls items of interest can be included and some items perhaps not
about bowls. As long as I get enough news and views I will try to keep the magazine going. What
would you know or find out if there was no magazine. Just think about it.
MAGAZINE SINGLE COPIES
MAGAZINE SINGLE COPIES
I have been producing SMI for 24 years now and at times I have
lost a lot of money producing it but thankfully the advertisers have
helped tremendously. In all I have produced well over 100 sepa-
rate editions during those 24 years, starting with an A5 sized mag-
azine, working up to a Black & White A4 magazine with spot colour
on the cover and now an all colour “quarterly” glossy.
With the best will in the World I am not in the business of sup-
plying free one-off copies just because people’s names or photos
happen to be in a particular issue.
However, I usually have some copies over and these are
priced at £5.99 each inclusive of post. I get requests from people
asking for the “last issue”, as they are considering subscribing but
in all the requests I have had, where I sent a “last issue”, I cannot
remember a single person following this up with a subscription, so I do not send anyone a current
issue, just a previous one of the few I have left over.
I have even had people claiming that their copy got lost in the post so I sent them another
and in two instances, as related to me by other subscribers, I know this to be a lie so that they
could get their friend a free copy. Just how desperate can anyone be? So in no instances do I
send out a current issue and adjust subscription date etc.
