SECOND SET OF GAMES
SECOND SET OF GAMES
In a repeat of the first set of matches, Ireland started off with a 48 - 27 win over Wales. 9
Best for Ireland was the rink of Andrew Leckey, Gerry McCabe, Ryan O’Neill & Kevin Conroy
won 13 - 3. The biggest turnaround found the very experience Irish rink of Pauline Beattie, Damien
McElroy, Raymond Stubbs & Kevin Conroy 4 - 10 down after five ends but a 4 - 2 - 4 scoring se-
quence put them 14 - 10 up and they eventually won 17 - 11. For Wales Paul Hudson, Arwel
Nicholas, Andrew Evans & Andrew Hudson won 9 - 6.
In their match against Scotland, England were pushed harder than the first but still won 44 -
24, helped by an 18 - 3 win from Danny Langdon, Anthony Fautley, Ben Render & Stephen Proctor.
Scotland’s only winning rink came courtesy of Yvonne Hiddleston, Robert Lanza, John Black &
Jimmy Broach, who won 11 - 8 despite dropping a four on the last end.
The second England v Wales clash this time ended in victory for Wales by 42 shots to 32.
Both teams won two rinks but the damage to England was done by the Welsh four of Chris, Mike
& Henry John with Skip Luke Haddon, whose stunning 18 - 4 win ensured victory for Wales. Ire-
land meanwhile were disposing of Scotland by 71 - 17. The best Irish rink was that of Mark Beattie,
PJ McCrossan, Leigh Harrison & John Quinn who won 22 - 3, followed by a 20 - 2 from Joe Beat-
tie, Nicky Haire, Johnnie Wilson & Alan Paul.
The final round of games was basically to decide who came second unless there were any
surprises, which didn’t happen. England lost 44 - 24 to Ireland and Wales duly beat Scotland by
71 - 21 but this was not enough to prevent England taking second place on shots difference.
