However, libraries by themselves can only do so much; it is the librarians who work in them who can reach
out to the library users, to friends and family members, and to the population at large to develop their media

and information literacy skills. They can do it through the various communication channels – official media,
social media, formal channels, informal channels, etc. – so that people become more information literate.

There are many suggestions on the internet and other media for programs, projects and activities that can be
carried out, some at very low cost and using few resources.

The Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University itself can be a
catalyst in promoting media and information literacy. Through the Professors and Lecturers, staff, students
and alumni, the message can reach a wide section of the population in Bangladesh. The current teaching

sessions, continuing education efforts, seminars, workshops, departmental publications, and posts through
the various media can all play a part in communicating the message.

Together, much can be done to resist this disinfodemic, and promote information media and information
literacy. Let us use this Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2020 to fight this pandemic, and to
promote development in the country and in society.

I wish the Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University the very best
          in its efforts.

          Thank you.
