                                                                                            Dr. Jagtar Singh
                                                                                Director, Collaboration and Partnerships
Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information
Science (Regd.), Department of Library and Information
                                                                              Science, Punjabi University, Patiala, India.

There is a tsunami of information during COVID-19 pandemic across the world. On the one hand countries
are struggling with the deadly virus, on the other hand with disinfodemic around the virus. Information

disorder leads to divisiveness and encourages hatred. Therefore, UNESCO is promoting media and
information literacy to reinforce human rights and to ensure peaceful co-existence and sustainable

development by countering conspiracy theories, discrimination, hate speech, information disorder,

radicalization of youth, and xenophobia. I am glad to know that the Department of Information Studies and
Library Management (DISLM), East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh is celebrating the UNESCO Global

MIL Week from 24-31 October 2020. This week long event would create awareness and understanding of the

role of MIL as a tool to resist disinfodemic and contribute towards peaceful co-existence and global solidarity.

I congratulate the East West University authorities and the DISLM for becoming an active partner to the
global MIL initiative and wish grand success to this noble event.
