Chasen’s

                               Hollywood chili

                                           (Elizabeth Taylor’s favorite)

                                         Ingredients

1 ¼ cups pinto beans (one large can)
               3 cups cold water
               5 cups canned tomatoes
               4 cups chopped yellow onions
               4 cups chopped green peppers
               t tbsp minced garlic
¼ cup chopped cilantro or parsley
3 ½ lbs ground beef or sirloin
               ½ cup chili powder
               1 ½ tsp black pepper
               2 tsp ground cumin
                                         Lagniappe

This chili from the Famous Chasen’s restaurant in Hollywood, made famous
by Elizabeth Taylor, was released by the restaurant after its closing. It is easy
to make and a southwestern favorite. It’s not hard to understand why
Elizabeth obsessed over it, I think you will too

Cook the onions and peppers till the onions are soft; add the garlic and cilantro to the
               onions and peppers;

Meanwhile, in a large pot, cook the ground beef in oil and butter for about 20
minutes; add the chili powder and cumin about half way through the cooking process.

Next add the onion and peppers to the beef and cook together for a few minutes.

Add the tomatoes, salt and pepper and simmer for 60 minutes stirring often.

To finish off the chili, add the pinto beans and water and continue cooking for an
additional ½ hour. Skim off the fat and serve with sour cream
