You can easily test this for yourself by tying a clove hitch
and then pulling on the standing part of the rope in the
correct direction. If the hitch was tied correctly and there
is enough friction between the rope and the object you
secured it to, it should hold fast. Now, if you pull on the
standing part in the opposite direction, you’ll see this hitch
quickly capsize and become untied.
How to tie it:
1. Wrap the working end of your rope around a stationary
object, such as a post or tree, completing a single turn as
illustrated in figure 31a.
