AJA’s Annual
Business Meeting
JA’s Annual Business
Meeting was held on Sunday,
AApril 11, 2021 at the Hyatt
Regency Inner Harbor in Baltimore,
Maryland. Because of restrictions
due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
the in-person meeting was limited
to AJA’s Board of Directors. The
meeting was held via Zoom so that
association members could attend.
At 10 a.m., Executive Director
Chris Daniels welcomed everyone
in attendance—both in-person
and virtually—and recognized
the Board of Directors. He noted
that AJA is celebrating 40 years of
service to our nation’s jails, and he
thanked the Board of Directors and
Past Presidents for their leadership
over four decades. “We would not
be the organization we are today
without you,” Mr. Daniels said.
He also thanked the partners
with whom AJA has collaborated
over the years to advance cor-
rections, criminal justice reform,
and the visibility of our jails on a
national level, and he recognized
all jail professionals as the reason
for the association’s efforts. “I have
been impressed and humbled by
your resiliency during the pan-
demic. Thank you for your dedica-
tion and commitment to making a
positive impact in the communities
that you serve,” Mr. Daniels said.
AJA President Marsha Travis
then called the meeting to order,
beginning with a moment of
silence in remembrance of “friends
and coworkers no longer with
us” as a result of the pandemic.
