CHAPTER Celebrating UP AND AWARE - 8
Diversity—Places
(Creative Thinking)
Beginning:
Walls have been built since ancient times, to protect one’s territory, for
privacy and to keep enemies away. The Great Wall of China was built to
preserve the culture of China while also hoping to keep invaders out.
The Berlin Wall, built in 1961, was a tough move by East Germany to
keep its people from escaping the Soviet rule and moving to West Berlin
which was then a capitalist country.
The Emperors of China hoped to preserve the Chinese culture behind
The Great Wall but today Chinese food is one of the most popular
cuisines in the world. So much so that we have our own Indian version
of Chinese food. Do you think the Chinese culture is well-preserved even
though millions of tourists visit China each day?
