UP AND AWARE - 8

Is your list similar to or different from the lists of other groups? Did something from another
                list surprise you?

Make a note of the ideas from the lists of other groups.

Your next task is to repeat this exercise but this time you will think of things that make your
diverse school a happy place to be in.

Continue working in the same group as before and brainstorm together, remembering to
                follow the rules of collaboration.

Is your list similar to or different from the lists of other groups? Did something from another
                list surprise you?

Make a note of ideas from the lists of other groups.

Imagine that your school has invited a group of learners from Japan for a student-exchange
programme. Use all the information from the previous two lists and put it together in a

letter to this group of learners, inviting them to your school and class.

In your letter, describe the diversity of your class and school and invite the learners to
celebrate the diversity they will experience.

Now I Know and this is what I Think…

Now that you know what diversity of places, celebration and happiness mean, draw a
poster of the diversity of your neighbourhood/building.

Think of the people who live in your locality or neighbourhood and live differently from

the way you do but yet make your neighbourhood an interesting place. For example, your
neighbourhood may have a family that has six pet dogs who bark all day long or the park
near your house may be the venue for the ‘laughter club’ where a group of people laugh
                 for no reason at all!
