steps that are: noticing, comparing, reflecting, constructing, and presenting. These
steps are based on the principles of intercultural language learning and learning-
teaching writing skills. However, the model is tried out concurrently between the
components of the developed model and the appropriate instructional materials
followed by determining goals, inputs, procedures, settings, teacher role, and
student role.
The field testing was aimed at gaining the particularity, feasibility, and
feedback of the developed model. From this, the result of field testing became a
measure to know that the product enables to enhance students‘ competences in
terms of intercultural knowledge and writing skills. The model of interculture-
based language learning (IBLL) developed was applied and get along with the
appropriate instructional materials for English writing classroom. After the
writing teaching-learning classroom was over, the lecturer distributes the
questionnaire for the students and asks them to complete the questionnaire items.
The data from the questionnaire were used to analyze lecturers‘ and students‘
feedback. The learning processes since try-out also are evaluated. All important
data gathered from the field testing are intended to make revisions of any
particular part of the model.
Subjects
The interculture-based language learning (IBLL) model for English
department students as the product of this study was tried out on the English
students of Language Educational Study Program of IKIP Mataram. The subjects
of this research are those who attended the classes of writing. There are five
classes and each class consists of 35 to 40 students. The technique of selecting
samples of the research refers to one technique which was purposive sampling
technique (Kothari, 2004: 59). The sample is chosen purposively based on the
prior information. The criteria for selecting sample were based on eases of
collecting data. The researcher chose one class deemed representative sample to
apply the interculture-based language learning (IBLL) model later on.
Types of Data
The try-out of the model is aimed at collecting data to know whether the
developed model is feasible and qualified to teach writing classes or not. From
