competence, and indicators. The test validity of this instrument is content validity.
To obtain the content validity, the researcher consults the test to experts who are
categorized competent and professional in their expertise. The consultation result
is considered as items that should be revised. The assessed aspects of the writing
cover the content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanic.
3. Validation of Instruments
The instruments of the study must fulfill the validity of tests before those
are used in the field. The test validity is done to know the validity and reliability
of instruments. The validity of instruments refers to the degree in which the data
collection procedures measure what it is supposed to measure. Meanwhile, the
reliability in other hand provides information whether the data collection
procedure is consistent and accurate.
a) Validity
In this study, the validity of instruments was viewed from two validities
which are the content. The two validities are as an indicator of the quality of
instruments. The content validity needs to be accumulated in order to find out that
the data collection procedure is a good representation of the content to be
assessed. To gain this validity, the researcher consults to the supervisors as partial
experts. Meanwhile, construct validity is aimed to see whether the data collection
procedure is a good representation and still consistent with the background
theories that enlighten the variable of the study.
o The instruments of questionnaires are validated by an expert of the Teaching
English as Foreign Language (TEFL), an expert of the ELT curriculum
development, an expert of designing English course-Book or ELT materials
development, and an expert of linguistics and cultures.
o The instrument of the observation is validated by an expert of the language
assessment.
o The instrument of the writing test is validated by an expert of the language
assessment.
o The instrument of the interview is validated by an expert of designing ELT
materials and development.
