?r tree and jumped
onto a bizarre creature
that was part owl and

part cat. “I’ve found
him!” it called. “I
could see him hiding the
feathers in this tree!”

The kids asked to have the
feather coats back, but Leshy, who liked
to make things dif?cult, made a deal instead.
He would return the coats if the travelers would bring him a magic feather from
the legendary Firebird, who lived on the highest mountain in the farthest North.

As the three set off, Claudia checked the Yak-Yak and saw they only had
half an hour left. Maybe they should just head back.

However the Travel Bug, determined not to give up, led them through
the woods to a rushing river.

“This will take us to the North if we can ?nd a boat,”

said the Travel Bug.

Just then, several wild onions popped out of the ground and

said, “There is a boat just around the bend that can travel
faster than the wind. Only, it belongs to the witch Baba
Yaga. If you use it, don’t let her see you or she’ll turn you into
frogs!”

The adventurers thanked the onions and found
the magic boat. They hopped in and quickly
headed up the river.
