Soon it got very cold and snowy, and darkness was closing in
when streaks of green light appeared in the sky and began speaking
to them.
“I am the spirit of the Northern Lights and
know of your quest for a Firebird feather. I will get
one for you if you can answer my riddle:
King of the North,
He calls to the moon,
And runs with the pack,
That answers his tune.”
“It’s a wolf!” called out Craig.
“Very good,” said the spirit. She immediately
soared to the top of the highest mountain, got
the feather which glowed at bright as ?re, and
brought it back to them.
After turning the boat around, the
three sped back down the river and were
almost to the forest when they passed
a strange house that was sitting on
a pair of enormous chicken legs.
Suddenly, an ugly witch peered out
of the house window and screeched
at them. It was Baba Yaga! She was
coming!
Claudia, Craig, and the Travel
Bug jumped out of the boat as soon as
they reached the woods and were running
as fast as they could to ?nd Leshy when Claudia
tripped and fell.
