Students designed board games while
learning about ancient poetry, the message
of ghost temples, and how to take action to
protect the Earth
The students of the Classical Culture and Modern Life
course at the Department of Chinese Literature reinvented
the classical game of Monopoly, designing four innovative
board games: Poetry and Distantness, Reciting Poems,
Love at NSYSU, and Jade Spear, taking the players on
a journey through literature. The same Department also
started the "Minnan Folk Literature and Culture" course,
which students researched ghost temples in Greater
Kaohsiung and used the gained knowledge to design
thematic board games, conveying the idea that ghost
temples are not dark, evil places but a blessing to the
residents, whom they protect. The students and teachers
of NSYSU Aerosol Science Research Center launched an
educational board game – "Protecting Gaia: A Battle for
Better Air Quality". The players play the roles of People,
Government, and Air Pollution Monster, while gaining
awareness of the problem of air pollution and learning
how to take action to protect the Earth.
