Edith Kinnunen

Edith Kinnunen was a leader of a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout
troop in Middleburg Heights, Ohio for many years. She was
active on a community level and in scouting. She was born in
Berea, Ohio. When she and Mary Heger asked, “Who wants to
be a Brownie?” over 30 girls showed up. They took them all and
when daughter Kim few up, she volunteered for leadership at
the Junior troop level and co-led the troop with me. Her willing,
happy personality made her a delight to work with. Edith passed
in 1995.

Ava Kress

A Frontline documentary on child poverty in the USA started
Ava thinking. After a summer of research, volunteering at both
a food bank and a homeless shelter, Ava knew she wanted
to start a “snack sack” program at a Cleveland school. Her
Power Point presentation to the employees of Meriam Process
Technologies convinced the employees to donate food and
money. Ava also convinced other Girl Scout troops, members
of her community, and friends to help. 14,000 snack sacks were
donated during the 2014-2015 school year. Noticing there was
no Girl Scout troop at the school, Ava started and helped lead a
troop of 15 girls, kindergarten through 3rd grade. Ava, a 12 year
old Cadette, earned her Silver Award. Look out world, Ava is
coming and there is NO limit to what she is going to accomplish!
