Laurie has shared Marty’s long time association with Girl
Scouts. They often shared experiences of their volunteering
ups and downs. They attended 2 National Council Sessions
together and toured Savannah once as well. Marty met Girl
Guides in England while visiting Laurie there. Marty stayed
at Olave House in London and visited with other Scouts and
Guides from around the world. Laurie saw Girl Scouts as a
constant in her mom’s life and has unconsciously emulated that
philosophy. She hopes to be up to the challenge of continuing
Marty’s legacy of service to the Girl Scout organization.

Nancy did not continue in scouting but Marty’s love of nature,
crafts and empowering others was passed along in the Art and
Teaching professions Nancy has pursued.

Barb continued in Scouting with all 4 of her children, beginning
with Cub Scouts and then in Girl Scouts with her 3 girls. She
never truly appreciated all that her mom had taught her
through scouting until it was time to pass that wisdom onto the
next generation of scouts. Then all of the crafts, songs, outdoor
cooking & camping skills learned over the years came bounding
back.

Girl Scouting sustained Marty and gave her life meaning. Her
life-long commitment to Girl Scouting wasn’t just what she did,
it was who she was. There is a saying that Marty often shared:
“Collect only memories and leave only footprints”. Memories of
Marty are many and her footprints have forged a path for many
young girls to follow, including her grateful daughters.
