Advantage of home visit;
1. Home care generally costs less than institutional care
2. The family is treated as a unit and basically retains some control
over the environment
3. Lifestyles of clients can be carried out as usual and clients can
exercise his preferences for diet and activity
4. The nurse is available to teach comfort and support measures and
to monitor the physical and psychological status of the family
5. The nurse counsels and helps family to resolve conflicts with
family members and promotes positive communication pattern
6. Develop sense of closeness and confidence on the part of family
and the nurse
7. Family members feel free to ask questions rather than in hospital
setting.
Disadvantage of home visit;
1. It is time consuming and energy.
2. Cost of professional services and supplies may not be provided by
some insurance.
3. Certain limitations such as transportation and shortage of staff that
make it impossible for the nurse to make visit frequently enough.
4. Culture, taboos and traditional way of living may be considered as
a barrier for delivery of nursing interventions.
5. Non acceptance by the family members.
6. It does not give opportunity for the family to share the experience
with other clients who have the same health problems.
7. Interrupting in the home may make instructions difficult.
8. Sometimes have to face dreadful events.
9. Nurses' safety can be an issue.
