ADVANCED ROLE OF COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING



               Introduction

                      Community health nurses wear many hats while conducting day-


               to-day practice. The focus of nursing includes not only the individual,

               but  also  the  family  and  the  community,  meeting  these  multiple  needs

               requires multiple roles. The nursing profession offers expanded role and


               different kind of career opportunity.


               Definitions;



                     Traditional  Role:  Nurses  were  concentrating  in  curative  aspect

                      maximum.


                     Extended  Role:  To  reach  out  to  the  community  and  extend  the

                      services to the people.

                     Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs); An APN is a registered nurse

                      who has completed additional masters or doctoral education and


                      training and is nationally certified.


                     Expanded  Role:  It  is  the  one  that  nurse  assumes  by  virtue  of

                      education and experiences.



               Components of Community Health Practice

                      Community  health  practice  can  be  best  be  understood  by

               examining six basic components, which, when combined, encompass its
               services and programs. These components are:


                   1)  Promotion of health

                   2)  Prevention of health problems
                   3)  Treatment of disorders
                   4)  Rehabilitation

                   5)  Evaluation

                   6)  Research
