MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH CARE (MCH)



               B. Natal Care

               Natal care provided in Egypt 2014 was 70% (EDHS)


               Objectives of the natal care
                   1.  To assist the mother to have normal delivery.
                   2.  Provide emergency care if necessary.
                   3.  Safety for both mother and fetus.


               Place of delivery:


               1.  In MCH centers; there is an internal section with a limited number of
                   beds for delivery of:
                       a.  Registered mothers who preferred to deliver at the center.
                       b.  Mothers living under poor inconvenient housing.
                       c.  Mothers with mild difficulties.


               2.  Home delivery:

                         Deliveries expected to be normal can be carried out at home by
                          qualified trained nurse midwife (assistant midwives) provided

                          with an equipped kit.
                         Difficult cases can be referred to the center or hospital.


               Home delivery

               Advantages of home delivery

                   1.  The mother feels happier in her home with her family around her.

                   2.  The  mother  often  does  not  want  to  be  separated  from  her  other
                      children and husband.

                   3.  The family routine can easily be re-arranged when the baby is part
                      of the family from the beginning.

                   4.  The mother will receive advice concerning her needs in her  own
                      home.

                   5.  The expenses are minimal.

                   6.  Risk of cross infection is minimal.
