MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH CARE (MCH)
The MOH/ Maternal and child health department has set a
schedule of five home visits for postpartum care to be done by the nurse
or midwife.
The following activities will be emphasized in each visit in addition to
the routine postpartum care.
Visit Time of visit Activities
For the mother:
1- Check vital signs and blood pressure
2- Estimate the fundal level.
3- Ask about lochia, bleeding, urine and bowel
movement.
4- Episiotomy care.
5- Check the condition of the lower extremities
6- Assess the condition of breast and perineum
For the baby
1- Take the temperature.

3- Assess the eye, cord condition.
4- Cord dressing
Health education
1- Early ambulation
2- Nutrition
3- Breast feeding
4- Postpartum exercises
5- Hygiene
6- New born care
Record the findings and referral if needed
For the mother:
1- Assess the mother general condition
2- Check vital signs.
3- Check lochia condition, fundal level and
perineal condition.
4- Check flow of milk
for the baby:
1- Take temperature
