If the condition is chronic there is ulceration and scarring of the all of the
esophagus resulting in stricture (Nan-owing and obstruction.)
b) Stomach and Duodenum
I) Gastritis
It is inflammation of the stomach lining. It can be acute or chronic
depending on duration
II) Peptic ulcer
It is a term used to describe an ulcer occurring in stomach or duodenum,
as result of exposure to gastric juices.
c) Disorders of the small intestine and large intestine
I) Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
The 2 most common types of inflammatory bowel diseases include
Ulcerative colitis and Cohn’s disease.
II) Ulcerative colitis
It mainly involves the colon (large intestine) and rectum. Only the
mucosa (inner lining) of the intestine is involved.
III) Cohn’s disease
It can involve any part of the GI tract but predominantly involves the
ileum (terminal part of small intestine), colon, and rectum.
IV) Irritable howel syndrome
It is a disorder which causes abdominal symptoms (cramps, changed
bowel habits, constipation, diarrhea etc.) for which no apparent cause can
be found.
V) Polyps
It is small growths in the intestine which protrude into the intestine.
VI) Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are also known as piles. These are swollen, inflamed veins
around the anus or in the lower rectum.
