Hersey and Blanchard have postulated the concept of Situational
Leadership which states that the leadership style should depend on the
"maturity" of the sub-ordinates.
The concept of maturity here is different from maturity in terms of age
and personality development in the life cycle, which was taken note of by
Chris Argyris in the Immaturity - Maturity Theory.
Schmidt and Tannenbaum classify the style according to the extent of
participation or freedom given to the sub-ordinate, in decision making.
Excellence in performance becomes possible through innovation and
creativity.
The process of building up ideas in a group under conditions of relaxed
enjoyment without judgment is called "Brainstorming".
Synergy is the concept which says that the interaction of members in a
group can create energy (abilities or knowledge) more than the sum of
the energies of the members themselves.
