B. Training
1. Principles of learning
The social - (earning theory has given us some principles of learning in the
context of work. These are:
I. Individuals learn only when they want to learn. Workers in an
organisation may be willing to learn when they are able to see how
the training will be of help to them
II. Learning requires feedback. People learn better if they are told
periodically about the progress they are making, as and when they
learn, not at the very end
III. Reinforcement encourages repetition of learned behaviour. Thus if
a worker is appreciated when he performs a task well, he is likely to
continue to perform the task in that way
IV. Practice reinforces learning
V. Learning begins rapidly but later flattens out, if not practised
VI. Learning must be transferable to the job
VII. Learning must result in a permanent change in behaviour
