        2.2 Bangladesh Healthcare Scenario

A well-functioning health sector is crucial for overall development, but Bangladesh faces significant challenges
in its healthcare system. According to the Bangladesh Health Facility Survey, approximately 25% of health
facilities lack basic equipment like stethoscopes and thermometers. The most pressing issue is the shortage of
human resources, with a deficit of around 140,000 nurses and a low nurse-physician ratio. The World Health
Organization recommends three nurses for every doctor, but Bangladesh has only one nurse for every three
physicians. Additionally, there are issues with drug supplies and facility management, leading to limited access
to publicly supported healthcare for just 25% of the population (The Financial Express, 2023).
