The gallery was for many years an elegant meeting place for
musicians, artists of La Scala, industrialists, traders and men of
culture. Even today it is always very lively, flanked by its luxurious
cafes, elegant shops and important bookstores.
Leaning Tower
Famous throughout the world for the elegance of its architecture
and the singularity of its statics. Begun in 1173 and interrupted due
to the subsidence of the land which caused the inclination, it was
resumed in 1275 by Giovanni di Simone and completed, perhaps,
by Tommaso di Andrea di Pondera, towards the end of the 14th
century. On the north side it is 55.22 m high. and in the south 54.52
m. with a vertical deviation of 4,265 m. From here Galileo Galilei
carried out the famous experiments on falling bodies.
