Lateral Restraint is provided in modern buildings by strapping floors and roofs to the walls, using light weight steel
straps.
Older properties often do not benefit from any form of strapping to the external brickwork in this way. Where
movement occurs then this can be fitted retrospectively to improve lateral stability.

Details / Defects / Issues: At the time of the inspection no visible defects were observed.
An inspection revealed a traditional timber frame design typical for this type of building with no evidence of
significant distortion. Some general splitting and staining of the timbers was observed but this is merely consistent
with the building’s age.
