The Role of the Teacher
Many educators teach in much the same way that they have been taught. The
seed-planting or knowledge transmission model is common. The third principle of
Learner Centered Teaching asks educators to reflect on their own roles, both inside
of and outside of the classroom. This approach to teaching encourages a move
away from Knowledge Transmission Model and toward a Learning Facilitation
Model. In this section, the educator becomes the focus of assessment, in order that
they might both gauge the effectiveness of their current teaching style and
consider ways adapting their style in ways that best benefit their students.
