SOLAR ENERGY EXPERIENCE
FY08 VOLAR BARRACKS + CEP RENOVATIONS
The FY08 Volar Barracks and CEP Renovations project, built for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, included the
renovation of a three-story 592,445 square foot military barracks located at Leesville, Louisiana. The facility houses
the Volunteer Army Barracks and supports 74 buildings with 1,076 individual apartment units and four central
distribution plants on the Fort Polk Army Installation. The military barracks were renovated to include reinforced
steel flat roofs and precast concrete parapets, precast floor panels, and conventional post-tension cable. The project
also featured kitchens, private bathrooms, solid surface countertops, and cultured marble tub surrounds as well as
new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This project achieved Silver Certification for Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design from the U.S. Green Building Council for resurfacing and polishing of existing concrete
floors, solar powered lights for safety and security, and a solar water heating system. Due to Core’s efficient project
management coordination, the FY08 Volar Barracks and CEP Renovations project was completed four months ahead
of schedule offering the use of quality living quarters to soldiers.
