SOLAR ENERGY EXPERIENCE
TUCSON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT SOLAR
INSTALLATION
The Tucson Unified School District Solar Installation, built for Constellation Solar
Arizona, LLC, included the new construction of 11,155 kilowatts of photovoltaic
arrays at 43 separate school campuses in Tucson, Arizona. The photovoltaic arrays
function as a renewable power source by converting solar energy into electricity
through solar cell panels and distributing electrical energy for use by each school.
Construction of the photovoltaic arrays consisted of concrete caisson foundations
with wide flange steel and galvanized purlins. The project also featured canopy
mounted string inverters and 10,000 volt wiring and 300 and 305 watt Yingli Solar
modules for creating shading for parking lots and athletic fields and outdoor play
areas. Due to CORE’s construction efforts of incorporating newer technologies,
the Tucson Unified School District Solar Installation project, meets the District’s
goal of generating 80% of energy usage through renewable energy sources at
each school.
