SOLAR ENERGY EXPERIENCE
VALLEY METRO SOLAR INSTALLATION
The Valley Metro Solar Installation project, built for Natural Power and Energy, included
the addition and new construction of a 773 kilowatt photovoltaic solar array at the
Valley Metro Light Rail Operation Maintenance Center located in Phoenix, Arizona.
The photovoltaic solar array consists of 275 watt SolarWorld solar panel modules top
mounted on one new parking lot canopy and seven existing canopy structures as well
as one ground mounted structure in a dirt retention area. The solar panel modules were
constructed on a foundation comprised of concrete caissons and drilled piers and a
structural frame of steel I-Beams and posts. The project also featured string inverters for
converting direct current to alternating current in high voltage direct current inputs. Due
to CORE’s construction expertise, the Valley Metro Solar Installation project now provides
renewable and cost-effective energy to the maintenance yard for the light rail system
servicing the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.
