First things first - the Scallop
The Scallop sculpture on Aldeburgh beach (Image: Suffolk Live)
After parking in the Thorpe Road car park, the first stop on my walk around
Aldeburgh was at the Scallop sculpture on the beach. If you have no idea what
I'm on about, the Scallop was made a permanent fixture on the beach in 2003,
when it was unveiled as a tribute to composer Britten. Made from stainless steel,
the divisive structure was designed by local artist Maggi Hambling. The sculpture
features a quote from Britten’s opera, Peter Grimes: "I hear those voices that will
not be drowned."
After admiring the sculpture for a few moments, I rejoined the seafront path and
headed towards town.
