As Giselle and I went from room to room, crazy Leroy was still
there, and I could tell he had been drinking. I wanted him to leave
because I could see he was agitated. He had never liked me, and I guess
he felt Giselle had a nerve bringing me with her. He finally left after
about fifteen minutes.
After seeing how he had destroyed the house, Giselle knew she
had to have the house cleaned from top to bottom before moving. We
decided to go ahead and at least have some fun, so we invited some
friends over and made cosmopolitans. Everyone who entered the
house could not believe the chaos. Late in the evening, Leroy’s son
and daughter-in-law came over and Leroy’s son made the most
profound statement. You see, he had never had a close emotional
relationship with anyone, not even his son. The only person we ever
saw him bond with was his alcoholic helper, “Sony,” from Southeast
D.C. His son looked around the house and said to Giselle, “You know
this demonstrates how my dad feels inside.” Deep!
Giselle said "Immediately, it made sense to me, his whole life was
chaotic and out of order, the fact that he lived in such a mess
demonstrated what he was on the inside. He also made G recognize
how much of a loner his father was, he spoke of his father never going
to a store to shop, he would always order from catalogs. All of his jobs
consisted of limited interaction with people. He took the graveyard
shift on his job to limit his interaction with people. Even in his lawn
care business he really never had to interact with his clients because
