Letting Go

or the entire month of April, the bank pressed the sale of the
house. Every day for three weeks straight, the bank’s attorney
would have a courier come to door wanting me to sign a
forbearance agreement; I had no idea what that was or meant. All I
knew was it looked too thick for me to sign, so I would peep out the
window and watch the courier ring my doorbell over and over again.
I could count on him like clockwork each morning at 7:00 am.
I had met with the bankruptcy attorney and now had a clear
understanding of the bankruptcy. I had a choice to file two types of
bankruptcy, one was Chapter 13 which meant, I could keep my condo,
and establish a payment plan for the $400,000 debt which was more
than a mortgage. Chapter 7 meant I would sell my condo and eliminate
the entire debt. I initially started out planning on Chapter 13, but
circumstances later changed, and I had to declare Chapter 7.
Since I was still managing Daddy’s finances, I realized that
bankruptcy was an excellent option for him. He could stop the
