                                   Shake UP Your Fluency Practice

Students need engaging practice! Come prepared to shaker, dance and learn our

favorite activities that incorporate the use of math shakers, a simple pill container

filled with regular dice. Concepts covered: subitizing, make 10's, decades, doubles,

operational fluency, basic facts, mental math, place value tens/ones, to the millions,
decimals, fractions, and more. Each activity will start with a quick 30 sec

music/movement break, then quickly transition into math practice. Ideas are easy to

differentiate so all students can have success. Gameboards, student samples, will be

shared. Great for centers, whole group, regular and ELL, RTI programs.

                 Thursday 8:15-9:45 Session: N03 6th - 12th Level Lincoln Room

Strategies Used to Promote Discourse in Mathematics Classrooms

Teachers will improve their ability to structure effective collaboration. A team

building activity will allow each person to get to know their teammates. Team roles

will be assigned to give students a clear way of participating in the team
conversation and share responsibility in the learning. Many study team teaching

strategies will be modeled using math problems. In these activities, participants will

see how the Standards for Mathematical Practices are tied to these strategies.

Closure will involve teachers listing strategies they will use in their classroom in the

coming weeks using a Give One, Get One.
