English Language Learners’ Mathematics Problem

Solving Strategies and the Mathematics Register

English language learners seem to struggle to set up an appropriate equation to
represent a situation and appear bound by the equation modeled to set up the

situation in lieu of another strategy that might have produced a correct answer,

underscoring the complexities involved in making sense of algebraic content using

the mathematics register.
