S.C. Educator Certification Renewal Guidelines
As an educator, it is your professional responsibility to keep track of all staff
development activities you attend and to ensure that your attendance is
properly validated and documented.
A personal planning form for the conference is always included in the
SCCTM Conference program, is available on the SCCTM website, and is
emailed to each registered attendee as part of the "Preliminary Program.”
You will find your Session Attendance Log Sheets in this document. Please
make copies of these log sheets. Please print a copy and print and save an
electronic version of your certificate(s) of attendance. Additionally,
complete your SCCTM Proof of “Session Attendance Log Sheets" with
details about the sessions you attended. Save and store these SCCTM
documents along with any certificates, agendas, handouts and other proofs
of attendance from your district-approved professional development
activities including other conferences and workshops that you have
participated in within your certificate renewal timeframe.
Important Notes:
• SCCTM Record Retention: Due to the high cost of online storage, SCCTM is unable to
retain session attendance records indefinitely. The organization’s database tracks emails
for up to six months after they are sent. Beyond this period, SCCTM cannot provide
duplicate conference attendance certificates via forwarding the email. Upon receiving
your attendance certificate, it is strongly recommended to print and store physical
copies, keeping them alongside records of other district-endorsed professional
workshops and conferences during your certificate renewal period. You may check the
email log within your own personal SCCTM account to find previous emails that were
sent out to you via the SCCTM.org database system. (This log includes receipts,
conference registrations, certificates, etc.)
• Professional Development Credits: Educators holding a South Carolina Department of
Education-issued Professional Certificate are eligible to receive renewal credit for
professional development activities only with the approval of their employing South
Carolina public school district or renewal entity.
General Information About South Carolina Educator Certification Renewal:
• Session Duration and Credit Calculation: SCCTM sessions and workshops vary in
length and are credited based on minutes. You can also earn up to 60 minutes for
reviewing instructional materials in the exhibit hall area. Each hour of attendance in
sessions or workshops equals one (1) credit point. To calculate your total points earned,
add the minutes of sessions and workshops you attended and divide by 60.
• Certificate of Attendance: Certificates of attendance, to be used as proof of conference
attendance, will be emailed to each attendee. Each attendee must keep up with their
own personal session attendance log. Your personal session attendance log, along with
the emailed certificate, will serve as your proof of credit points earned. Retain copies of
