On the obligatory nature and truth of
the transmitted tradition agreed upon
by consensus and the nullifying of
the transmitted tradition claimed
solely by the Rabbanites.
Know that God commanded us to
transmit our accounts and laws to
our children and commanded the
children to receive them from the
fathers, as it says in the story of
(the Exodus from) Egypt: “And
that thou mayest tell in the ears of
thy son (Exod. 10:2), and it says
regarding Passover, “And it shall
come to pass, when your children
shall say unto you […] ye shall
say” (Exod. 12:26–27), and it says
regarding the commandments in
general, “When thy son asketh thee
in time to come, saying: What mean
the testimonies, and the statutes, and
the ordinances,” (Deut. 6:20), and
it says: “Ask thy father, and he will
declare unto thee, thine elders, and
