The Structure of an Essay
1 Examine the structure of an essay.
Before constructing a thesis, study the diagram of a typical essay
below. (Three body paragraphs are shown here. Your essay may
have more than three.) Then read the essay that follows, noticing how
it corresponds to the diagram. A well-planned thesis statement is an
important step in writing a well-structured essay.
