Reflect on It
A thesis statement is your statement of the main idea. It sums
up your essay in a sentence and lets the reader know where
the essay is going.
But a thesis statement is more than just a sentence in a college
essay. When you have learned to write a good thesis
statement, you have learned to capture a large idea in a few
words.
How will you find capturing the heart of an idea useful in your
future career? What kinds of documents will you write that will
benefit from the inclusion of a single statement of the main idea
before you go into details? These may be emails, reports, or
proposals. Whatever your career may be, you’ll have to write
something to someone. Write down at least one detailed
example of a document you will write that will benefit from a
statement of the main idea.
