Mr. Kimball and Dr. Bettman are both excellent sociology teachers,
but they are different in the way they lecture, test, and make
assignments. Mr. Kimball makes jokes during class and throws out
silly puns that make the class groan. He speaks quickly, so taking
accurate notes can be difficult. Sometimes he gets sidetracked and
forgets what he was talking about. Dr. Bettman does not tell jokes,
but she is extremely organized. Her lectures are practically in
outline form, and as she lectures, she gives hints about what might
be on the test. The testing styles of the two teachers are also
different. Mr. Kimball’s tests are multiple choice, and he words
questions so that students must read carefully. Dr. Bettman’s tests
are in essay format, and she expects students to use their knowledge
in new and creative ways. The two instructors also differ in their
assignment of outside projects. Mr. Kimball requires a group project
and presentation. He asks for a typed list of references but no
formal paper. Dr. Bettman, on the other hand, requires a research
paper complete with a bibliography. Both are able instructors, but
each approaches lecturing, testing, and outside projects in a
different way.
