Jurgen Frembgen (2006) writes that in Southwest Asia, bats are
considered part of the demonic realm because of their strange
“anatomy” and nocturnal activities.
If you have not used the author’s name in the sentence or paragraph,
place the author’s last name and the year in parentheses after the
quote or a paraphrase of the author’s words. A comma is used to
separate the author’s name and the year.
Example

A Work by Two Authors.
As with a single author, if the authors are already mentioned in the
sentence or paragraph in which you discuss their work, the page
number alone serves as the reference. If you have not mentioned the
author’s names, your parenthetical reference should include their last
names separated by an ampersand (&) along with the page number.
Use the ampersand only in the parenthetical reference, not in a
reference within the text.
