The References List
In APA style, your References list is double-spaced on a separate
sheet headed “References.” Items in the References list are
alphabetized by the last name of the primary author. Within the
citation, authors are listed by last name and initials only. The
publication date follows in parentheses, followed by the title, which
should appear in the References list in “sentence case”: lowercase
except for the first word and any proper nouns. (Note that titles
mentioned within your paper should retain the capitalization used in
the title of the actual work.)
Articles that can be accessed online are documented in the
References list with a DOI, or digital object identifier, when one is
available. The DOI is found on the first page of the article itself. If the
article was published before 2011, the DOI will contain numbers only.
The DOIs of articles published in 2011 or later will contain letters and
numbers and can be used to create links to the articles themselves. If
you retrieve the article from an online database, note that APA style
does not require you to cite the database, only the publication itself.
For more information on digital object identifiers and their proper use,
see www.apastyle.org/learn/faqs/what-is-doi.aspx.
