government and participate in IPIC’s advocacy efforts.

The mandate of this committee is to contribute to the development of anti-counterfeiting
legislation policies and practice in Canada.
Competition Law Committee
The Competition Law Committee will consider and report on issues relating to the impact of
Canadian competition law on intellectual property rights. The committee will be responsible
for researching and providing information to IPIC on the interface between competition law
and intellectual property rights. The committee will consider the impact of this interface on the
licensing of intellectual property rights, the enforcement of intellectual property rights and the
settlement of intellectual property litigation. The committee will consider amendments to
existing legislation and will monitor the activities and publications of the Competition Bureau
as they relate to intellectual property rights.
Copyright Policy
The Copyright Policy Committee shall serve as a platform for debate amongst members of our
Institute who represent various interests of the copyright community. If a consensus is reached
on a particular topic, it will make recommendations to Council to advance the general interest
of the Institute and advocate copyright reform in areas desired by the Institute and its
members. When there is not a consensus, it will report on the various points of view.
Copyright Technical
The object of this committee is to monitor proposals for the amendment of the Copyright Act
and to make technical recommendations to government regarding proposed legislation.
Industrial Design
The committee identifies problems of policy or practice which relate to practice before the
Industrial Designs Office, alerts the Industrial Designs Office, and seeks improvements via
discussion of the issues in writing or by meeting with representatives of the Office. The
Committee also reviews proposed changes to practice, policy and legislation and prepares
comments and recommendations to be submitted by the Institute to Parliament or the
Industrial Designs Office. The Committee monitors industrial design practice with a view to
identifying facets of industrial design law in need of reform, and to recommend amendments
to industrial design law.
